Playing the djembe is, for me, a primal way to connect with the rhythm of life and the energy of the group. I teach it with passion, because I believe drumming can awaken joy, release stress, and support the natural expression within each of us. It’s music that doesn’t need words — it speaks through feeling.
“Babka z Kopernice” was the nickname of Terézia Münichová (1869–1936), a renowned Slovak folk healer and midwife from the village of Kopernica in the Žiar nad Hronom district. She was highly sought after for her ability to diagnose illnesses through touch and gaze, and was said to possess “magnetism” in her left hand.
She treated people using herbs, animal-based remedies, and traditional recipes. For example, she used compresses made from sheep’s milk and wool to treat rheumatism, and placed a sachet of thyme under the pillow to help with insomnia. She was also known for never charging money for her services — people brought her whatever they could.
Legend has it that she healed the daughter of President T. G. Masaryk, Alice, who suffered from respiratory and urological issues. She received dozens of patients daily, which even led to the construction of a better road to Kopernica.
